The more independent and adventurous children will find a holiday in The Gambia enjoyable and culturally stimulating - seeing a monkey or baboon in their natural habitat is a memorable experience at any age. Visiting a school and meeting Gambian children is very educational and gives the opportunity to become pen pals with children from a completely different way of life. Younger children are always happy on a beach with a bucket and spade and The Gambia has beautiful, vast, sandy beaches.
Although there are no waterparks or organised kids clubs, some of the hotels have separate children's pools and play areas. High chairs and cots are available in certain hotels.
Please talk to our reservations department who can advise what children's facilities are offered at each hotel and give details of room types suitable for families.
During the evenings many of the hotels offer entertainment for the whole family usually in the form of a lively stage show or an African dance troupe. There are a large number of restaurants in and outside the hotels which offer western food.
Malaria is a very real risk but it is an avoidable illness and antimalarial tablets especially for children are now available. We strongly recommend that you consult your GP before booking.
Child Discounts
To qualify for a child discount, children must be between two and fifteen years old on return to the UK and share a room with 2 adults paying brochure price. Winter prices are displayed on each individual property page.
Infants
Infants under 2 years on return to the UK are charged a nominal fee of £39 to cover administration costs but are not allocated a luggage allowance or a seat on the aircraft.
Free cots and high-chairs are available at our larger hotels.
Mandina Lodges at Makasutu and Chimpanzee Island do not allow children up to 15 years old and neither does Ngala Lodge unless the whole property is taken for a group or family.
